SAN ANTONIO (WOAI/KABB) - A man who stood trial twice on charges that he beat a man to death before dismembering him and burning his remains in a barbecue pit was found not guilty on Wednesday.

Gabriel Moreno was accused of killing Jose Luis Menchaca in 2014 during a violent struggle during which Menchaca was beaten to death with a baseball bat.

This was Moreno's second trial on murder charges. The first ended with a deadlocked jury back in March.

Witnesses testified against Moreno during the trial that he and another man ambushed Menchaca in the back bedroom of a home on Hillwood. The other man, Daniel Lopez, was convicted earlier this year and sentenced to life in prison.

A third person accused in Menchaca's murder, Candie Dominguez, pleaded guilty and is awaiting sentencing.
