Child killed in West Hempfield hit-and-run

Police are searching for a black SUV with front-end damage, after a young boy was hit and killed at the intersection of Summit Drive and Marietta Avenue.

The call came to Lancaster dispatch at 5:45p.m., Saturday evening.

East Lampeter Township Police, West Hempfield Township Police, Lancaster EMS and West Hempfield Fire are on scene.

According to police investigation, a group of people was crossing Marietta Avenue from the parking lot of the Silver Spring Cemetery, heading towards Saint Mary’s Coptic Church.

Two of the people, a 17-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy, were hit by a maroon Ford Taurus being driven by a 17-year-old girl. That car was heading east on Marietta Avenue.

The boy was thrown into the westbound lane, where he was hit by another vehicle. One of the vehicles remained at the scene, but several witness said that a black SUV also hit the boy, but continued traveling west without stopping.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene. The female pedestrian was taken to Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital.

The 21-year-old sister of the injured female pedestrian was also crossing Marietta Avenue, and may have been struck by accident debris, causing a laceration to her head. She was also transported to Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital, where she was treated and released.

The driver of the Taurus was also taken to the hospital as a precaution, and was later released.
