Patron halts armed robbery at Rutters

Police are investigating a Saturday morning attempted armed robbery that was stopped by another armed customer.

Just before 3:00 am, the suspect entered the Rutters at 8210 Derry Street, Hummelstown. An employee saw the suspect, and fled the store from another entrance.

The suspect displayed a handgun and continued into the Rutters, where he was briefly confronted by another armed customer.

According to police, the suspect then turned and fled the store.

The armed customer is licensed to carry a firearm in Pennsylvania.

The suspect is described as a black man, wearing a red hoodie and a black mask. The same person is believed to have committed another armed robbery at a Turkey Hill in Derry Township 40 minutes earlier to the incident in Swatara.
