Marino wins GOP primary, Dem race too close to call in 12th District
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Incumbent GOP Congressman Tom Marino easily won his primary election Tuesday night in the 12th Congressional District.
Marino defeated challenger Doug McLinko by a 67 to 33 margin.
On the Democratic side, the race is too close call.
Marc Friedenberg leads Judy Herschel by 306 votes, with more than 25,000 votes cast.
An official at the Pennsylvania Department of State said absentee and military ballots still need to be counted and all votes still need to be certified. She said a recount isn't mandatory in a district race, but could be requested by a candidate.
The newly drawn district covers Central Pennsylvania and for the first time represents State College, which was previously in the 5th District and was represented by Congressman Glenn Thompson.
Marino was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2010.
