Man charged in crash that killed newborn
Lancaster County —
On July 17th Pennsylvania State Police were dispatched to a crash on Beaver Valley Pike at the intersection of Walnut Run Road in Strasburg Township.
Through an investigation it was determined that a Isuzu trooper driven by Charles Singleton,45 of New Providence, PA was driving south on Beaver Valley Pike.
Singleton crossed over the northbound lane and hit a Volkswagen jetta that was driving north. It was determined he was under the influence according to a report from Pennsylvania State Police.
There were two female's in the jetta and all three people involved in the crash had to be taken to Lancaster General Hospital for their injuries.
The severity of the injuries sustained by the passenger in the jetta led her to have to undergo an emergency cesarean section, according to police.
Unfortunately, the female juvenile, who was born alive, couldn't over come the injuries sustained in the crash and died.
As a result the State Police in conjunction with the Lancaster County District Attorney's office have completed their investigation and arrested Charles Singleton on several felony charges.
He was charged with homicide by vehicle while DUI, aggravated assault with a vehicle while DUI, recklessly endangering another person, and multiple summary charges as a result of the crash.
He was arraigned and a preliminary hearing will be set at a future time.
