Lancaster man sentenced to 8 years after hit and run crash
Carlos Marrero pleaded guilty in Lancaster County Court to felony counts of aggravated assault and leaving the scene of a crash over a hit and run accident last summer. He was sentenced to up to eight years in prison.
On July 9, 2017, Marrero , 22, ran a red light and crashed his car into another vehicle.
A reconstruction of the incident determined Marrero was driving more than 100 mph just before he struck a Chrysler sedan. According to police, the reconstruction determined he hit the vehicle at 69 mph.
Marrero fled the scene on foot.
The two passengers in the Chrysler sustained serious injuries.
The female driver suffered a fractured spine and injuries to her internal organs.
The male passenger sustained numerous injuries, including a fractured skull, fractured leg, punctured lung, ruptured intestines, along with a broken elbow, finger, and ribs. He also lost vision in one eye after the accident.
At his sentencing, Marrero apologized for his actions and the male passenger expressed forgiveness, according to police.
Marrero also pleaded guilty to four summary violations at his sentencing.
