A Carlisle based softball coach has been charged with sexual assault of a minor.

According to Carlisle police they received a complaint that Joseph Vincent Sullenberger sexually assaulted a juvenile female he was coaching on December 22nd. Police say Sullenberger assaulted the victim while giving lessons at the Central Penn Sportsplex in Carlisle.

To ensure the safety of the community during the investigation police notified the Central Penn Sportsplex and parents involved with the Susquehanna Valley Slam, another team that Sullenberger coached, of the allegations against Sullenberger.

Cumberland County District Attorney Skip Ebert says, “The Carlisle Police Department moved swiftly to investigate these allegations balancing the need for public safety and maintaining the integrity of the investigation. Our office maintained close contact with Chief Landis throughout the investigation and continue to do so as it evolves. I thank Chief Landis and his dedicated team of professionals.”

During the investigation Carlisle police were able to identify three more victims of Sullenberger. Police believe due to Sullenberger's long tenor as a coach there may be other victims and are asking anyone who may be aware of others victims to contact police.
