Boating safety tips for a rainy summer


The month of July is breaking records for some of the most rainy weather, and it may not be over just yet.

So what should you do if you’re on the water and a storm is approaching? Susquehanna Outfitters say you should check the radar minutes before you head out on the water.

If you’re on the water when the weather gets stormy, head to shore and put on a life jacket if you don’t already have one on.

“It’s not so much the thunder and lightning that’s the most dangerous part of your trek, it’s more of the wind and the current, and how fast that current can really muster up”

No matter the conditions, always keep an eye out for debris and don’t drink alcoholic beverage while on the water.

These simple tips can hopefully keep you from needing the assistance of a river rescue.
