Attorney asks FBI to look into Springettsbury Twp. PD

By: Christina Butler

-- A local attorney has requested an investigation by the FBI into the Springettsbury Township Police Department.

Devon Jacob believes the public is in danger, and says the department has gone rouge.

CBS 21 contacted a legal expert who says requests and investigations into police departments weren't common until recently, but because of the growing microscope on police they are popping up more and more.

If the FBI investigates, it is expected that they'll look into it and then pass it to the Department of Justice if warranted. As for a timeline, it's expected to take at least several weeks.

Meanwhile, Chief Dan Stump with the Springettsbury Township Police Department has issued a statement. It reads: "Springettsbury Township Police Department has and will continue to fully cooperate and be transparent with all law enforcement agencies. I have complete confidence in the officers of Springettsbury Township and the service we provide. I am unable to comment any further due to the pending lawsuit against our department."
