Gnoza Knows It | Where are the drive-in movie theaters?
I got a question a couple of weeks ago asking whether or not we still have any drive-in movie theaters open.
Whether Haars drive-in is still going strong, and they wondered how it was pronounced.
We have two in this immediate area, the Cumberland Drive-in. That's in Newville, Cumberland County on route 11 at 233 south. And of course there is Haar's, which is still going strong.
I drove down to Haar's yesterday and talked with Connie Darbrow. They're getting ready for the opening weekend. May 4th and 5th. They will be showing the avengers and then the black panther. Connie said business is still doing very well. That screen is new, just put in last year. Connie's husband, Al was doing some work on the signage. I told her I’d also mention the auction business at Haar's. You don't find many drive-in movie theaters left anymore. A lot of them have been replaced.
Do you remember the old Keystone movie theater on Paxton Street? It was down below where Bass Pro Shops is. Got some restaurants sitting there now along with the Sheetz.
Oh and Haar's can be pronounced Haar’s or “Hairs.”
Different members of the family did it different ways.
