Gnoza Knows It | 2011 Pennsylvania redistricting vote
A little politics in today's Gnoza Knows It.
The congressional district plan for Pennsylvania that was just over-turned for being unfair to Democrats, was actually approved in 2011 by the state legislature.
Here's the amazing part, 36 Democrats voted in favor of that plan.
I called Democratic House Leader Frank Dermody to confirm that fact and his office sent me this roll call, and yes 36 Democrats voted to approve the redistricting plan that was recently ruled to be in favor of republicans.
Among the notable names on there voting 'Yes' was former representative and current Auditor General Eugene DePasquale.
Why would they do such a thing?
It was apparently no secret back then that this plan tended to favor Republicans.
In fact John Micek said at the time on his Capitol wire report that it was Democratic congressman Bob Brady out of Philadelphia that drummed up support for the plan.
Micek says Brady got it to shore up his voter base.
I called Brady's office twice asking for comment, but got no return call or email.
I called DePasquale's office yesterday asking for a comment.
Brady announced in January that he will not be seeking another term in office.
