Death threats against promoters sacks Michael Vick signing
Updated: Saturday, September 21 2013, 02:15 AM EDT
Death threats made against the owners of a York County sports memorabilia store have temporarily sacked an autograph signing by Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick.
Joe Bartolo told me this afternoon the signing was postponed after he claims death threats were made against him, his wife Jamie -- the owners of JJ Cards N Toys -- and their family for organizing Vick's appearance in October at a local Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant.
Those making the threats were upset the Bartolos would bring Vick to the area. Vick served 18 months in federal prison for running an illegal dogfighting ring.
Bartolo told me thousands of threats were coming in from all the country. He even had to shut down the store's Facebook page.
After I spoke with Joe, CBS's Ewa Roman interviewed Jamie Bartolo at the couple's main memorabilia store at the York Galleria Mall. Roughly 70 people had purchased tickets for the signing.
Jamie Bartolo said the couple will decide on Monday whether to hold a private signing with Vick; find a new location for a public signing or cancel Vick's appearance.
Update 9/20: This Vick signing has been postponed. More information to come.
