How a Master's Jacket ended up in Lebanon, PA
IT'S THE MOMENT GOLF FANS KNOW SO WELL. THE MASTER'S JACKET BEING PLACED ON THE WINNER AT AUGUSTA NATIONAL. .... BUT WHAT IF YOU COULD HAVE THAT FEELING.. RIGHT HERE IN CENTRAL P-A?
NOW YOU CAN, THANKS TO A GOLF FAN WHO FOUND SOMETHING MORE RARE THAN A HOLE IN ONE.
THERE'S GRASS.. AND SOME GREEN.. BUT WE'RE AT A CAR DEALERSHIP 670 MILES AWAY FROM AUGUSTA GEORGIA, SO HOW DID AN AUTHENTIC MASTERS GREEN JACKET END UP HERE? WE HAD TO GET THAT PART OF THE STORY FROM HOUSTON TEXAS. (THANKS KHOU-TV)
THE JACKET HAD BEEN DONATED IN LATE 2015 WITH A BOX OF CLOTHES, TO "THE GUILD SHOP", AND THEY INTENDED TO AUCTION IT OFF USING AN AUCTION HOUSE. THAT'S WHEN FRED LARUENZO, A CAR DEALERSHIP OWNER IN LEBANON, PA.. GAVE THEM ANOTHER OPTION. HE SAYS, "The auction fee was about 15-20%, and they didn't want to sell it until the Master's so, they didn't want to wait 5 or 6 months, so they sold it to me on the spot."
NOW IT'S THE TALK OF HIS DEALERSHIP, WITH PEOPLE CONSTANTLY WANTING TO TAKE THEIR PICTURES WITH THE SPORTS ICON. HE'S DONE SOME RESEARCH ... AS THE EMBROIDERY SHOWS... IT BELONGED TO BENTON LOVE. A PART OF THE BANKING INDUSTRY IN HOUSTON, AND A MEMBER AT AUGUSTA MAYBE IN THE 1960'S AND THAT'S WHAT MAKES THIS TRULY A RARE EXPERIENCE OF ANYONE WEARING ONE. LARUENZO SAYS, "Supposedly, the jackets are supposed to be returned to Augusta when a member leaves, and for some reason this one was never returned."
WHERE WILL IT GO FROM HERE? EVENTUALLY FRED SAYS HE'LL AUCTION IT OFF FOR CHARITY.. (WHERE EXPERTS EXPECT IT GARNER BIDS AROUND $50k) BUT IN THE MEANTIME, ANYONE WHO COMES IN ON MASTERS SATURDAY, CAN GET THE LOOK AND FEEL OF A CHAMPION.
