Police: Mom crashes SUV into pole to prove to kids God is real
ATLANTA, Georgia —
An Atlanta area mom was arrested after authorities say she deliberately crashed her vehicle into a pole to prove to her kids that God is real.
WSB obtained video footage of the Wednesday morning crash from the City of Norcross, Georgia.
The SUV is seen on footage going northbound across the southbound lanes of Peachtree Industrial and drove into a concrete pole.
Twenty-five-year-old Bakari Warren and her two children, ages five and seven, were inside the vehicle during the time of the accident.
The officers asked the children if they thought she crashed the vehicle on purpose? They responded by saying, " Yeah because she turned! Her eyes were closed and she was saying blah blah blah I love God."
Norcross police say that Warren did tell the children to buckle up their seatbelts, just before she went across the road. Officers arrested Warren right after she got out of the SUV.
Sgt. Ed Butynski said, "When the officers asked the driver of the vehicle what happened, her first statement to the officers was to check her Facebook and it would explain what happened."
Police say she gave them the same reasons as her children, "to prove that God will protect them."
Warren has been charged with two counts of child cruelty and is being held on a $22,000 bond.
