Nurses killed in Ohio nursing home shooting identified
They are Cindy Krantz of Pataskala and Marlina Medrano of Newark. Thorp released the victims' names publicly after meeting with their families Friday evening.
Court records show Medrano was involved in an ongoing domestic violence case from January, where she had asked for charges to be brought against alleged shooter Thomas Hartless. In the report on the domestic violence accusation, Medrano wrote that Hartless told her he would kill her if she told police about the incident. Court records say Medrano asked for police after being taken to Licking Memorial Hospital by Hartless' father, who picked her up after Hartless assaulted her.
In the report, Medrano told police Hartless asked her if she wanted to get married, but she said she didn't want to get engaged with a ring Hartless bought at a bar. After that, the report says Hartless attacked Medrano in her car, then called his father to pick her up after she got out of the car and he chased her down, punching her several times.
Hartless was supposed to appear in court Friday in the domestic violence case.
Autopsies for Medrano and Krantz are scheduled for Saturday.
The third person killed was Kirkersville Police Chief Steven Eric DiSario, who had only been on the job for three weeks.
