York Mayor tells shooter "You're going straight to hell" after "blindly" firing at baby

York City Mayor, Michael Helfrich, posted a video on Facebook where he expressed his anger over the city's first homicide in 2018.

Michael Bell, 32, was shot and killed in a house on the 200 block of South Penn Street on Feb. 12 around 8:30 p.m.

Helfrich said on Facebook Live that was most disgusting about the crime was the fact that Bell was holding a 1-year-old baby at the time of the shooting.

“Whoever was shooting, was shooting at a baby," Helfrich said. "Was shooting into a house, completely blindly."

"Whoever’s out there that did this, you shot at a baby," Helfrich said. "What the hell is wrong with you?”

Helfrich continued saying, “When you’re just randomly shooting up places, my God, you’re going straight to hell."

Police say the 17-year-old was found with a bullet wound to his left side and was transported to York Hospital. At this time he is listed in stable condition.

Bell was pronounced dead at the scene.

If anyone has any information relating to this incident, they are encouraged to call the York City Police Department at 717-846-1234 or text tips to 847-411.
