Woman dies of apparent overdose, man hospitalized, coroner says
JOHNSTOWN -– An investigation of a disturbing death is underway in the city of Johnstown.
A 25-year-old woman is dead and a man is in the hospital after the two apparently overdosed Tuesday morning at a house on Blaine Street in the West End section.
Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees said someone, possibly a third party, called 911 to report two people in cardiac arrest inside a home with two young children, one of whom has special needs.
The children were a 5-year-old girl and a 6-year-old boy.
“This could have been a horrific death scene,” Lees said.
Lees and Johnstown police are still working to figure out what happened.
Lees said the woman was found dead in a second-floor bedroom.
Police said the man was found unresponsive in a bathtub that had ice packs or cooling devices inside.
The woman and man have not yet been identified.
“It's bad enough we have a 25-year-old passed away, but the potential was there for a greater loss of life,” Lees said.
Lees said two deputy coroners were able to wake the children and dress them before Children and Youth Services arrived.
Officials said the man is expected to survive.
Lees said the cause and manner of death of the woman is unknown, but said it appears to have been caused by an overdose.
