State police investigate incident in which 3 cats were found hanging from tree
MAPLETON – State police are investigating a case of animal cruelty in Huntingdon County after a cat and two kittens were found hanging from a tree.
State police said the incident occurred in the 600 block of Grant Street in Mapleton Borough around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.
A resident told police that her beagle got loose and ran down the road to the railroad tracks.
When the beagle returned, police said it had a 12-foot rope attached to it and a dead cat with a noose hanging around its neck was discovered hanging at the end.
Police said the rope did not appear to have been intentionally attached to the dog.
Upon further investigation, residents living near the railroad tracks told police they found a mother cat and two kittens hanging from a tree a few weeks ago.
