Police: Ex-boyfriend charged in Mount Wolf homicide that stunned community
Northeastern Regional Police Department say the ex-boyfriend of 19-year-old Ahshantianna Johnson has been charged in her death.
Edia Lawrence was arrested and charged on Wednesday in the beating death of Johnson on March 25.
Police say Lawrence and two other men invaded the Second Street home, stole several items before threatening the victim's mom with a metal baseball bat and urging her to call Johnson to come to the home.
According to a criminal complaint, she was also threatened with a knife until she reached her daughter on the phone, saying there was a family emergency.
The mother reported to police that she heard one of the suspects ask to get duct tape from a car out back that was later moved because Johnson would recognize it parked in the alley.
When Johnson arrived to the Second Street home, she was beaten, police say. She died several days later.
The mother told police that she originally did not know Lawrence's name but referred them to a teacher who would because Johnson and Lawrence were in class together.
A witness told police that Lawrence and Johnson had a relationship but a few days prior to the invasion, Johnson was asked to pick up approximately $1,500 from someone and return it to Lawrence but the plan went astray. Lawrence allegedly had several people dealing drugs for him.
Another witness told police that Johnson had stolen a lot of money from Lawrence and he in turn was upset and said he would take care of it.
Lawrence is in the York County Prison without bail.
