Penn State graduate nominated for position by President Trump
STATE COLLEGE - President Donald Trump has nominated State College-based AccuWeather CEO Barry Myers as Under Secretary for Oceans and Atmosphere, Department of Commerce.
President Trump issued the nomination Wednesday and said Myers is one the world's leading authorities on the use of weather information.
Myers has been CEO of AccuWeather since 2007 and previously was a member of the Penn State faculty for 18 years.
He is also a member of the Board of Directors for the American Weather and Climate Industry Association.
The Philadelphia native graduated from the Smeal College of Business at Penn State and received his J.D from Boston University.
" Much of AccuWeather’s success can be attributed to the great work of Barry and Joel Myers. I believe Barry will succeed in his new position with NOAA and I look forward to working with him and his team once he is confirmed by the Senate,” said U.S. Senator Pat Toomey.
Myers still needs to be confirmed by the Senate. That nomination hearing has not yet been scheduled.
