'Not One Penny' protesters gather at Capitol before President Trump's speech
Before President Trump's speech Wednesday, protesters gathered on the Capitol steps.
It was part of the "Not One Penny" campaign. Demonstrators called the tax plan "disastrous."
Among the protesters was 35-year-old Diana Deeley who has lived her whole life with cerebral palsy. She says the president's plan will cut services she relies on each day, supplied through medicare and medicaid.
"If he would cut them, I would have to pay $3000 a year for my services and that, I can't afford," said Deeley, "I want him to understand that at any day, this could affect him too."
Other programs could face slashes in funding as well, like supplemental security income for poor seniors, and funding for the national institutes of health.
