Theft spree causes District Attorney to urge people to lock cars
LANCASTER COUNTY —
Lancaster County District Attorney Craig Stedman is urging residents to lock their vehicles and remove valuable items from their car.
This comes after a spike in thefts in the past two weeks.
Police across the county are investigating more than 100 thefts from vehicles this year.
It is believed that numerous juveniles and young adults, possibly working together, are responsible for the thefts, according to police.
The reported thefts have taken place in Lancaster, Manheim and West Lampeter townships, Manheim Borough and Lancaster city.
In almost all the incidents, the vehicle was either unlocked or an item was left in plain view.
District Attorney Stedman said the following:
No one deserves to have their money or belongings taken from them and we will prosecute those responsible. However, we do not want vehicle owners to make it easy for them by leaving doors unlocked and items in plain view. So, please take the time to lock the vehicle.
