HBG 6-year-old injured in accidental shooting, police say gun was stolen
HARRISBURG -- Police say a 6-year-old was hospitalized after being shot by her older brother at their home on 1100 block of Cloverly Road Thursday morning.
The victim was treated on scene and transported to Hershey Medical Center where she remains in critical condition.
In a press conference, police explained the 10-year-old brother got a hold of the gun and accidentally shot his younger sibling in the chest. Investigation into the shooting revealed the weapon had been stolen from a Susquehanna Township home in 2014.
Police do not believe the child stole the gun and have issued an arrest warrant for 24-year-old Tremayne Antonio James on charges of not to possess a firearm, receiving stolen property, endangering the welfare of children and recklessly endangering another.
He is the only person to be charged in this case at this time. Police are not elaborating on the relationship between the suspect and the victim.
Police responded to the shooting at 2:00 AM where they followed a large trail of blood to a 6-year-old girl lying on the floor with her mother applying pressure to her wounds.
EMS began immediate treatment on the child for the gunshot wound and to prevent further blood loss before transporting her to Hershey Medical Center.
The investigation is still ongoing.
